Never once while reading this book did I think to myself, “I’ve read this before”. Krischer took an original idea and through skillful storytelling led us through a dark and satisfying journey through the minds of five girls experiencing the rawness of competition when no one wins except the reader. Shade loved gymnastics when she was younger, but she ultimately left because of the bullying. However, when she sees those same girls in cheerleading, she cannot deny the pull of wanting. Shade knows she wants to be a flyer, and she is not going to let the mean girls stop her from going for it. As she joins the cheerleading team, her BFF Jadis becomes jealous and sullen.
