  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Patrick Moore LMT BA -- An Abridged Version of the Condensed Version of Epictetus : A later condensed version of the Enchiridion of Epictetus, which was already a condensed version of the Discourses of Epictetus. ( Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2015 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Bernie GourleyTop Contributor: Fantasy Books -- The brilliant insight of a slave turned stoic philosopher : Epictetus was a slave-turned-philosopher who was born in Hierapolis and famously lived in Rome until Emperor Domitian banned philosophers from the city. Like Socrates—who Epictetus quotes and refers to frequently—we would know nothing of the thoughts of Epictetus if it were not for one of his enthusiastic students, Arrian, who compiled his mentor’s teachings. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Full of wisdom, but old English is challenging to read : This book was tricky for me to read because of the old language that I’m not used to reading in English. (Big reason for rating a 3 instead of 4 since it took away some of the pleasure in the reading). Whenever I picked up the book it would take me a couple of pages to get used to it. However when I managed to do that, I could take in a lot of the content and some of it really spoke to me. I would say that it is definitely worth to read something by Epictetus if you’re interested in some “life wisdom” and/or stoic philosophy, but be prepared that some editions may have a very old language that can be hard to read if you’re not used to it. I will try another book by Epictetus, but a newer Swedish translation this time to see if I can grasp it better! ( Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Bman -- Good Book : This book of wise sayings are primarily found in part within most religious text, especially the Bible. The interesting thing is that the wisdom is timeless and very applicable with constant practice. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2019 )
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Mark -- Old translation hard to read : I am not sure of the original publication date but assume it was long ago. The translation uses English that is so archaic that it is difficult to read. The conversion to an e-book is fine and I assume the translation was also when originally released. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Great book and full of wisdom : This book contains wisdom wrote back in classical Greece. The information assembled in this book still applies to our day and age. I can definitely say that I will be rereading this book many times and I intend applying the wisdom of Epictetus as much as possible to my life. I highly recommend this book to everyone. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Troy Dye -- The Golden Sayings : This condenses the wisdom of many pages to a few that are best digested slowly. It amazed me that I thought myself educate before I read this. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- The Golden Sayings of Epictetus : One of the truly great books of all time. Standing on the shoulders of five centuries of great philosophers, Epictetus composed a book of genius that speaks to us across two millennia. Reading this is like sitting at the feet of your grandfather, if your grandfather were on of the word's great geniuses. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2014 )
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Moses -- not worth the read : Not really. It sounds like a have dozen philosophical views from many other people, all rolled into one and with no real point in the end. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 22, 2018 )
